Pride Essentials

Updated: Aug 13, 2018

Pride season is technically over, but local pride events are still going strong! I attended quite a few this summer, and have compiled the perfect list of pride essentials to keep you cool, calm, and collected during the heat of your next pride event.

The first thing you need to think about is staying *hydrated* so I would plan on bringing a water bottle. I keep mine on a carabiner attached to my belt loop so I can be hands-free to wipe glitter on strangers and collect as many free stickers as possible. My water bottle of choice is the Hydroflask 21oz (mine is in mint!) but Camelbacks and Nalgene bottles are nice too.

Once you've got hydration taken care of, next is sun-care. I stand by my Neutrogena Ultra Sheer, body mist and lotion alike. For facial sunscreen, you're going to want something a little bit more serious than the Glossier Invisible Shield. For a day like pride, I prefer to Anthelios Ultra Light SPF 60. It's definitely heavier than my invisible shield, but it's much better for serious sun exposure! If you're rocking a pride look and need to save your makeup from sunscreen re-application, look into buying the SuperGoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist. You just mist it over your face like a setting spray and bam! You're safe from the sun again. It even comes in a travel size! SuperGoop also makes a great gloss with SPF 50, it's called Lip Screen and I hardly ever leave the house without it.

An SPF setting spray isn't the only product you're going to want to bring along with you. Let's get into my favorite minis, perfect for slipping into a tiny bookbag or glittery fanny pack! The travel sized Mario Badescu Rosewater Spray is perfect for any event. A tiny Batiste Dry Shampoo is great antidote for limp hair after sweating for a few hours, but don't boost your hair without having a tiny brush to brush it with! Wetbrush has the CUTEST tiny brushes on the planet, they can slip into almost any bag. Now, while Glossier Balm Dotcom isn't *technically* a mini, it's cute like one. I like to bring the birthday flavor to pride events because it has a little *sparkle*. Lastly, I like to collect little perfume samples to throw in my bag & keep me smelling great all day. My go-to used to be the Glossier You sample offered in Glossier packages, but unfortunately this tiny bottle is no longer available (bring it back, Glossier!). Maybe you think all of these tiny things are overkill, but to me they are completely necessary.

As for the bag you're slipping all these tinies into, I love hunting for vintage fanny packs. Mine is hot pink and says "Las Vegas" across the front, but if you can't get your hands on something vintage, I'm a big fan of the Patagonia fanny pack. It's got like a million pockets, perfect for organizing all of my things when I go to an event. I've also started keeping my cards in a little Kate Spade card holder whenever I go places. It holds my cash and cards and forces me to edit out the things I don't need to carry. I purchase mine from outlet malls, I can find them for about $10 sometimes!

Next, the fun things! (Not that minis and fanny packs aren't fun). Glitters are cheap and easy, I love the $1 holographic glitters you can buy from Sally's Beauty. I usually stick it to my face with an Elmer's Glue Stick. If it's good enough for drag queens, it's good enough for me! BUT, if you're feeling real crazy and have around $30 to blow, Spacepaste is the way to go. I also love the Milk Glitter Stick and any of their tattoo stamps.

These are my pride essentials (not pictured: a huge pride flag and my "bisexuals exist" tee shirt). I'm still sad that June is over, but I wish all of you a happy non-June pride!
