For those who know me, you would probably say that my routine is a bit... aggressive. What can I say? I'm a maximalist when it comes to skincare, I love having options. Let's start from the top.
I get up and wash my face with Milky Jelly Cleanser, usually in the shower. It's super gentle and pH balancing. I would probably die without it. This cleanser is great for removing makeup, but I always end up needing a quick swipe with a cotton pad and my Garnier Micellar Water just to remove any lingering mascara below my eyes. Next, I'll tone my skin with Thayer's Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel Toner in Rose Petal. I love anything with rosewater in it. This particular toner is great for me and my sensitive skin because it's simple and it's alcohol free. Anything with isopropyl alcohol or alcohol denat makes skin tight and irritated, so it's better to do without any products that contain those ingredients. After toning, If my skin is feeling pretty good after toning and not in need of anything extra, I'll usually just skip a serum all together. BUT, if I am feeling dry or like I am breaking out, I'll usually go in with something to help however my skin is acting. I like Glossier Super Pure Serum for when my pores are congested, and First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hydrating Serum for when I'm feeling dry. The Ordinary has a comparable serum to Glossier Super Pure if you are looking for a cheaper option, but there is something about the Glossier version that I just like so much more! It's probably all in my head, but I don't care. After that, I add a light moisturizer. My two favorites are Glossier Priming Moisturizer and First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer. I am also partial to Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel and sometimes even Too Faced Hangover Rx Primer if I am wearing a more makeup-heavy look. You can never have too many moisturizers! I love having one for every occasion. Post-moisturizer, it's time for sun protection. I've been really into the La Rouche-Posay Anthelios 60 Face Sunscreen. It's super light under my makeup and very gentle on my sensitive skin. I also love anything by Coola, specifically their Classic Face Sunscreen in Unscented (who needs a scent in their sunscreen?)
THROUGHOUT THE DAY
I always keep a pink pouch in my purse full of skincare essentials I may need throughout the day. Inside, I have: a Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial Spray, a tiny tube of Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre, about a thousand Glossier Balm Dot Coms (my favorite flavors are coconut and mint), and a miniature sunscreen in case I need to touch up. This part is pretty self-explanatory, if I need an extra boost of anything I will just use as needed.
At night before I go to sleep, I like to remove my makeup with cotton rounds and Garnier Micellar Water or Labotica Bamboo Water Cleansing Tissue. After removing anything that was sitting on my skin, I will cleanse my face again with (you guessed it) Glossier Milky Jelly. After cleansing I will tone with my Thayer's Witch Hazel, and then I will take a cotton round and swipe Glossier Solution all over my face. I love Solution, it's a chemical exfoliant and it really brightens my skin and keeps any breakouts in check. I just feel *better* after using it. Post-Solution, I apply a retinol. More specifically, I apply The Ordinary's Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion. Retinols tend to scare people, (especially people with sensitive skin) but I've been using various retinols since I was 13 and struggling with acne. They are good for treating acne and have wonderful anti-aging benefits, which is great for me because I want to be 17 forever. After my retinol treatment, it's time for a serum. Again, serums are for treating anything your skin may be struggling with at that moment. If my skin is feeling dull, I will throw on some vitamin C with the OleHenricksen Truth Serum. If I am feeling dry, I will put on The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. (I find that this serum plays nicer with my The Ordinary retinol than First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Serum). Anything my skin wants, I give it. Next, it's time for a heavier moisturizer. I prefer the Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Cream, but I am also a fan of belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb, Laniege Water Bank Moisture Cream, and Glossier Priming Moisturizer Rich. After a moisturizer, sometimes I will just spray my face with a facial spray. It just feels good! I love the ones by Mario Badescu, all the flavors are great.
That's my day to day routine! Granted, each day is a bit different than the next. I may throw in a mask here or there and I try to exfoliate once a week (my favorite is the Mario Badescu Botanical Exfoliating Scrub, I use it both alone and mixed into my cleanser). But other than that, this is pretty much it! Honestly, I'm a little winded after typing all that, so thanks for tuning in.
